Rosie, the Border Collie, quietly snuck off with a small piece of Mānuka and started chewing in her favourite corner. Expecting it to be unsafe, but to everyone's surprise, she was happily gnawing away without any issues. The ends of the wood had softened and frayed into gentle bristles, almost like a natural toothbrush, and Rosie seemed to love every minute of it.
Inspired by Rosie and her love of that piece of Mānuka - and seeing wooden chewing toys of varying quality everywhere - we set out to create a Mānuka dog chew. That’s where Bonno began: a family‑built idea from the Bay of Islands, now proudly carried forward in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand.
Prefers to supervise the control centre, often with one or two eyes closed. Her favourite (after chewing) is to grab a Bonno when she's all excited to go for a walk or practise her agility skills.
Bubbles = Troubles. She loves working and takes every opportunity to take chew samples at random.
Our latest addition to the family. In Training. Has preferred Bonno chews over any piece of furniture since day one.
Charlie has been busy learning the ropes of what it takes to be a Bonno ambassador, and we're happy to report Charlie is chewing through her training!
Bonno began with a dog-mum, a craftsman, and a problem worth solving.
Stefanie, passionate Dog Agility competitor and proud owner of Rosie and Bubbles, knew what dogs needed. She brought the drive to make it happen. Ask anyone who knows her and they'll tell you she's organised. She'll just smile.
Tony brought the craft. A fisherman happiest with his tools in hand, he poured genuine care into every chew he made. For Tony, making Bonno wasn't work. It was a pleasure.
In 2026, the leash was handed to Jerome and Sandrine, based in the Bay of Plenty, who share the same passion for sustainable products, beloved animals, and doing things properly.

All our claims are genuine and supported by customers, clients or science. Bonno is the favourite chew toy of our dogs. Testers were part of our journey from the start, and their feedback was and is overwhelmingly positive. Our Mānuka wood has been scientifically tested to be free from essential oils.
Bonno are proud supporters of SPCA Whakatane. We donate chews for their shelter dogs to enjoy and support SPCA to sell them to visitors and new dog parents, with all profits going back to the SPCA. It's our way of helping the dogs feel more at home while supporting a great cause.
